Well played capitalism!

This past Saturday, congress ended unemployment benefits for 1.3 million Americans who were long-term unemployed. The longer you go without a job, the less likely you are to get a job. And, if you do get a job, it's going to be for less than you were making. This is true.

This is business. You can't blame an employer for taking advantage of an opportunity to lower payroll costs.  And really, since all rich people are now called "job creators" no matter what they do or don't do to create jobs, we really have to stand up and applaud them when they take advantage of such business opportunity- as long as it doesn't happen to us, that is.

Well now, what sort of selfish attitude is that?! I really question the commitment of anyone to God, capitalism and the flag if they are not willing to cut their own pay for business.

On Facebook threads where various outlets discuss current events, people have severe opinions on this. It sorta kinda depends on which site you go to but, even moderate sites can get a little harsh. It seems like a lot of people think enough is enough- take a job at McDonalds and don't even THINK of whining for more pay when you get there! You had your vacation, now get back to work! In some cases they're calling for suicides for those who can't/won't get with the program. Not a whole lot of that, mind you, but, enough to let you know we are a Christian nation. Point is. people are pissed. The same folks who crashed the economy by forcing banks to loan them money to buy homes they didn't deserve and could afford, are now- FINALLY- looking for work. 'Bout damn time!

You know what jobs they should get? The one's of every internet asshole who, despite The Great Recession, determined that getting a job was easy. You just need to take whatever they give you. Take their job. Tell their boss that you will cheerfully do their job, for HALF what they were making.

That might seem cold but, these people would have to step back, slow-clap, and respect your move. "Well played..." By their own rules they'd have to respect that.

Of course they wouldn't but, we already knew they were disingenuous assholes. They should respect this though.  It is doing whatever it takes to survive. It is exactly what you expect others to do. Others, who are not you. Others, that everything happens to. Not you.

I think that is the bigger picture of the teapublicans and their quest to end unemployment benefits completely. Pretty much everyone is expendable. We saw this happen in construction with illegals. It's tough to ask for more money when your boss can get a guy to do it for a lot less. I never understood why people embraced that when it didn't actually lower what they paid for a job.  The contractors profits went up as his labor costs went down and you paid the same. "Well played, contractor!" I guess?

I also never understood how people didn't figure this money-saving business acumen couldn't play just as well in the white-collar world. If you are currently paying someone $80,000 a year to push papers, wouldn't you save $60k by paying some desperate kid just out of college in a tough job market, $20k to push those papers? Is my math right? I didn't go to Math School but, I have toes when I run out of fingers.

Well, everybody thinks they are so special and valuable. Of course you can do the job better than that kid just out of college but, your boss doesn't care. The payroll savings is worth the price of admission, even if it isn't. Not all bosses are Math School graduates and many of them do think that two employees, both working at half the price of one employee make the boss richer, even if it takes them longer. They maybe went to Math School on football scholarships? Or played without a helmet?

They really don't care. And, they are glad you don't really care either...

First they came for the trade unionists....

But it's important to remember that many of the internet assholes are lying about their jobs. (Shock!) First clue? They spend a helluva lot of time posting online, talking about their fabulous career and their boss who pays them a healthy salary and even gives them promotions and raises, despite knowing (and even applauding) their online trolling. It's a Christmas Miracle!

They want everyone to believe their story and what better way to do that than spouting the reichwing line, especially belittling those they feel are lesser folks. Oh, they're so tired of paying the way of those fucking ingrates while they work so hard trolling and whining. It'a tough job but somebody's got to do it. It's the 'murican Way!

I was looking at a FB thread about long-term unemployment ending and some jerk was thrilled about that because 'now those people would be forced to get jobs!' The guy described himself as a "self-made millionaire"! Well, alrighty then! He didn't say how he made his million but, he offered to hook up anyone who needed help with a 'head hunter'. Pretty funny stuff. I'm sure he's certain everyone believed him.

Your brilliant. It started in my father's generation. Zerox laid off it's older workers and they sued. Reinstated. Now a guard walks you out the front door. Your retirement package lost...

My favorite story was when a friend was cut for "earning a living wage" from a Canadian corporation. A corporation that included company jackets with the company logo. There was a mentally ill homeless guy he passed daily, who hung out in front of his work place entrance - begging change. The Canadians allow for that. They're a little nicer. Anyhow,it was kind of this guys gig; his territory. So after being dismissed, my friend in a final act of 'fuck you' gave the jacket to the homeless guy who wore it proudly in front of the corporate headquarters entrance. Lol

The jacket story is AWESOME! I bet even mild-mannered Canadians might have eventually taken the jacket back and replaced it, perhaps with their competitors?

My ex-FIL worked at Continental Can. He made the cut but, in the 90's they were cutting loose employees ONE DAY short of their pensions. Disgusting. One company I worked for required 6 months of at least 25 hours of work, to get on the health plan. Holidays tripped up most guys, sending them back to square one with 3 days and 24 hours. It took one guy THIRTEEN YEARS to get his insurance. They would actually discuss in the office if a person was 'OK' to get their insurance. If not, they suddenly got two days off to begin the cycle again.

Well-played, scumbags, well-played....

How dare anyone work for a company where the benefits are lacking or can't be counted on! If your pension is cut after working their 30 years then it's YOUR fault for not saving enough for retirement. It's not the company's fault! It's the fault of the person working there for not being diligent and not being aware of the possibility that this might happen! It's also their fault if they get sick. No one should expect special treatment, for fuck sake.

These poor slobs need to make better choices and work harder. They need to choose a career and a company where everything is guaranteed and the industry is known to be fair. You know, a good 'murican company founded by entrepreneurs like the Koch brothers who are known for being fair. Or Smithfield! They go into Mexico and bus workers in illegally then report them to immigration if they get hurt, which many do due to horrible working conditions. God Bless their charitable hearts.

I'm weighing in a little late on this but one of the legitimate business sites quoted some lawmaker as saying extending federal unemployment bennies would be doing a "disservice," to the recipient. Jesus.
Also, the jobs that ARE out there are part time so the employers can get away with the medical insurance loophole. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
True story: I'm standing in line at the post office and someone brought up the jobless problem and the POSTAL CLERK said, "They aren't trying hard enough" (to find work). I just gawked at her. Here she is, sitting on a stool selling postage stamps and earning $25 an hour and she says that? Did she want someone to go postal on her? lol

The ending thought was certainly well-played.

Furthermore:

The state and national based barbarians won't rest until the public schools are COMPLETELY rendered "un-usable" and they have long been chipping away at federal and state regulations that makes inspectors of all kinds of food, healthy, safety, and financial concerns "invalid".

Hell yes we need a Republican president (not counting Bill Clinton): Teddy Roosevelt!

Teddy Roosevelt and Ike are my two favorite republican presidents. Neither could get the GOP nomination today.

Glenn Beck is having a bromance with Mike Rowe these days. He's pushing the return of trade schools in lieu of college. Well, OK...but kinda dumb after preaching against Unions. Where's the pay off? Where are the good paying jobs? And where are democrats pissing on the trades? I think Glenn has as short an attention span as his minions.

"Teddy Roosevelt and Ike are my two favorite republican presidents. Neither could get the GOP nomination today."

As we have expressed previously: Reagan would have a tough go at nabbing a GOP nomination.
