It would make sense if they were "paid posters". Don't we always want crazy things to make sense?
If a dozen or so people on an internet message board are paid to make stupid polls about a person on that board to entice other people to post there, driving up ad revenue for the site, that would make sense, right? That's business!
Telemarketing is business. If you have to call 1000 people to sell vinyl siding to just one customer, that is business too. Stupid, lame and archaic but, it's a living.
The lawyer who represents George Zimmerman and is trying to get things about Trayvon Martin's past teenage antics entered into evidence in his clients trial, is a businessman. His business is trying to get his client off and found innocent of murdering Trayvon Martin. Getting his client the Congressional Medal Of Honor for killing the kid would just be icing on the cake he could have and eat too, if he's able to pull it off.
A lawyers job is to do everything in his/her power to see that his client gets the best representation possible. That's why we need to know what a rape victim was wearing and if she had ever had premarital sex before- 'cause, you know, she may actually have been asking for it. Maybe Trayvon wasn't asking to be killed but, the defense will try to prove that he deserved it and society dodged a bullet when Trayvon did not that night. That's the business of law.
The lawyer is just doing all he can to free his client. I'm sure he'd respect another lawyer trying to vilify his dead child too. It's just business! Nothing personal!
That takes us back to Topix. Business or personal? It would be really nice to think a business is NOT actually paying people to be abusive to other people. But, then you have to think that that business is simply counting on the unkindness of strangers to further it's business. Is that better? Really?
If it weren't the former and it was the latter, wouldn't you want a control group of sorts keeping that malevolent nonsense going? I mean- what if things got slow and people stopped fighting? You know what you call Topix when it's just a bunch of people saying "hello" to each other? Email. That does happen and it's boring. Left to their own devices, people can be pretty boring. After awhile you might want some asshole coming in and taunting someone else about their perceived weight, politics or children.
Well, maybe not but, something to break up the monotony.
Honestly, I'm holding out that the people who fight with me or anyone else are doing it for the money. Not much money, mind you, because they suck at it. We say this a lot in construction when a guy is struggling or just not talented: "You really should think about doing this professionally...it would help us all a lot..." This "you're gay/fat/ugly/gay/gayer and gayest" shit got old in the fifth grade. If these assholes are in the fifth grade, I apologize. If not, they're just hacks and I only feel sorry for them. If they are the best that Topix can do- yikes!
And, if trolling people, insulting and trying absolutely anything to hurt their feelings is something you do for free...yikes for you.... If Topix isn't hiring, maybe they should? It's just somehow more pathetic that people are assholes for free when they could be lawyers or vinyl siding pitchmen.

Ferr I believe some of these posters and future mental patients started out with good intentions pertaining to posting. Then their true nature starts peeking out slowly. You notice their writing style gets more aggressive and mean. They also have split personalities. On one thread they pretend to be nice and sweet but on another they are nasty and release PI and bash people's illnesses and children. All the while, they lie about having a great life and pretend they are being loved by someone. They do ALL this Ferr, for free. Can you believe it? They aren't getting paid to be a troll because they love being one. What a bunch of sad sacks.
I know! As with crime, we always look for motive. If it's greed you just shake your head and acknowledge the age-old motivation of money. But, when it's just plain meanness? YIKES!

A while back I asked TM 21 if Mods or other employees of Topix ever post using accounts other than the official blue boxes. He replied that they do not. Then he posted again attempting to qualify what he'd just said. It was some hilarious shit. After that TM8 came out and admitted she has a couple of socks. Shocker.
I doubt Topix cares that it's moderators aren't capable of remaining emotionally detached when it comes to fights between warring factions. They just care about clicks, and if the moderators can befriend brown-nosers who will do anything to please them as well as bite at every line thrown their way then it's a win/win! Look at any mod thread and notice who's always there:)
That being said, I think there are 'special' posters who are clearly there because they're very, very good at driving up post counts and driving emotionally unstable people to post all day long claiming they "don't care" and they aren't "mad"... over and over again. I'd be very surprised if these mystery people aren't getting paid; they're obviously pros and are mostly anonymous despite knowing quite a lot about everyone to whom they're posting. They never get upset, either. Can't people see that? Don't they wonder why? Uh...is this their first rodeo?
I know who *doesn't* work for Topix. That's easy. The people who post day in and day out insinuating you and Barbi are the mysterious gray-boxers. Poor things want you to be....SO bad. It does no good to tell them they're wrong. Hell, maybe the crazy mods are encouraging them by saying it might be you in order to keep this shit going. The mystery posters clearly drive them to distraction so it's no wonder they flip out, but seriously, they need to stop for a minute and get a clue. Or not. Looking and acting like idiots hasn't bothered them much so far.
THOSE are the people (Kevin, Perse, Rush, et al) who will do it for free....all.day.long. And Topix loves them some emotionally unstable/overly-attached posters no matter what job they pretend to work at elsewhere while posting on Topix....all.day.long.

I guess you just have to feel sorry for those people. I mean their on Topix while getting sunburned in places that shouldn't( insert the he he he), while on a Zen retreat for Lord's sake, while on a road trip which a super hot guy with a bangin body! No they are NOT obsessed with Topix! My fave is how a certain individual thinks they know who "I" am. You don't even know who I am, Ferr!! Nice to meet you finally by the way! :). I'm just someone in the know is all!!
